North Lake Tahoe recreation update: chance of snow Thursday and Friday

Feb. 4, 2013 - The weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies in North Lake Tahoe this week with a chance of snow Thursday and Friday. High temperatures are predicted to reach 48 degrees with lows in the teens.

Resorts and Towns' Update

Cozy up this winter with fireside dining at The Cedar House Pub at Granlibakken Resort located just outside of Tahoe City. The restaurant, open 5-9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday, offers favorite dishes, such as French onion soup, the Big "G" Burger, steak and cherry strudel. There is also live music.

Event Calendar

Mark your calendar. Alpenglow Sports has teamed up with Tahoe Cross Country, both based in Tahoe City, to present the first-ever Lake Tahoe Nordic Festival Friday, February 8 through Sunday, February 10. This event is free and open to the public and includes film presentation, clinics, as well as groups skis and races.

Prestigious snow carvers from around the world will call North Lake Tahoe home Friday, February 8 through Wednesday, February 13 for Carve Tahoe. The weeklong international snow sculpture contest is specifically geared for spectators who will view firsthand 20-ton blocks of pure snow shaped and carved into breathtaking masterpieces. The competing teams represent 20+ countries. The event will be held at Northstar California.

In Incline Village, Sierra Nevada College continues with its Writers in the Woods series hosting author Tracy Ross Friday, February 8, 7-9 p.m., at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences. Ross is an award-winning journalist and contributing editor at Backpacker Magazine. She recently published a memoir The Source of All Things.

The Rahlves' Banzai Tour comes to North Lake Tahoe the weekend of February 9-10 at Alpine Meadows, which is located near Tahoe City. This fantastic spectator event showcases racers, four at a time, going head-to-head over natural terrain in ski and boarder-cross style action. The tour also has competitions at Squaw Valley (March 2-3) in Olympic Valley and Sugar Bowl Ski Resort (March 9-10) on Donner Summit.

Mt. Rose ? Ski Tahoe, just outside of Incline Village, is inviting skiers and riders to step back into the era of day glow, stretch pants and rear entry boots at their annual Slide Back 80's Party scheduled for Saturday, February 9. Anyone decked out in themed attire can compete in the "Fashion . . . or Fad" contest, which will be held at noon at the Winters Creek Lodge.

On the West Shore, Snowbomb.com kicks off its annual Lil' Air Mountain Festivals Saturday, February 9 at Homewood Mountain Resort. The terrain park competition are kid-friendly and open to participants 12 years and under with a $10 registration on the day of the event.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows will host The North Face Masters of Snowboarding Wednesday, February 13 through Sunday, February 17. This event will feature big mountain snowboard competitors battling for the champion title, $15,000 in prize money and a chance to advance to the 2014 SWATCH Freeride World Tour by North Face.

The North Lake Tahoe Express daily airport shuttle service is available to and from North Lake Tahoe and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The shuttle runs from 3:30 a.m. until midnight. Fees are $45 per person, one-way, and $85 round trip. Discounts are available for groups of two or more. Reservations are required and can be made four hours in advance.
