Pedroia: 'I don't think Bobby should be fired'

In wake of blowout vs. O's, 2B denies report he called for manager's ouster

updated 12:45 a.m. ET Aug. 15, 2012

BALTIMORE - Dustin Pedroia hasn't given up Boston's playoff hopes, and he believes none of the team's problems this season should be attributed to first-year manager Bobby Valentine.

Speaking after the Red Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 on Tuesday night, Pedroia addressed a report that he complained about Valentine's performance at a session last month with team owner John Henry and team president Larry Lucchino.

"We had a meeting in New York. I know coaches had a meeting, Bobby had a meeting. We all had a meeting," Pedroia said. "Basically, when I spoke I said we all had to be better. That means owners, Bobby, coaches, especially the players. I have had one problem with Bobby earlier in the year and I went into his office and talked to him like a man and he talked to me like a man. We've been great. We've had a great relationship. ... I'll go out there and play for him any day of the week."

The Red Sox are 57-60 after going 92-60 last year under Terry Francona, who was fired after Boston missed the playoffs with a loss to Baltimore on the final day of the regular season.

"I don't think Bobby should be fired," Pedroia said. "Listen, we haven't played well and I am not going to blame anything on Bobby and I don't think anybody else is. It's on the players, man. Last year wasn't on Tito. I know he took it hard. We all did."

Boston is closer to last place than third in the AL East, but Pedroia isn't giving up.

"We've dug ourselves this hole and we have to try to dig ourselves out of it," he said.

Mark Reynolds homered twice and drove in four runs for the Orioles, and Omar Quintanilla also went deep to help Baltimore improve to 7-3 against Boston this season.

Wei-Yin Chen (11-7) gave up one run, nine hits and a walk in six-plus innings for the Orioles, who moved 10 games over .500 (63-53) for the first time since June 24. Chen allowed at least one hit in each inning but was effective in minimizing the damage.

Josh Beckett (5-10) surrendered six runs and six hits, including two home runs, in 5 1-3 innings. It's been a nightmare season for the right-hander, who is 1-6 in 12 starts since May 20. In his past two outings against Texas and Baltimore, Beckett has yielded a combined 14 runs and five homers in 10 1-3 innings.

Reynolds hit a solo shot off Beckett in the fifth and greeted Mark Melancon with a three-run drive in the sixth. After totaling 113 homers over the three previous seasons, Reynolds has only 11 this year. It was his first multihomer game since last Sept. 21, when he connected twice against Beckett.

Playing in his fifth major league game, Baltimore's Manny Machado was held hitless for the first time. But he made two fine plays at third base, where he has yet to commit an error.

Boston stranded 12 and went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, a shortcoming fueled by cleanup hitter Adrian Gonzalez. He made the final out in the first, third and fifth innings, stranding a runner on second or third each time, and finished 0 for 4 with a walk.

Quintanilla hit Beckett's first pitch of the third inning over the right-field wall to put the Orioles up 1-0. He has four homers this season (including one with the Mets), after hitting only two in 227 games before this year.

Boston used a double by Cody Ross and an RBI single by Carl Crawford to pull even in the fourth.

Pedroia tripled with two outs in the fifth before Gonzalez grounded out. In the bottom half, Reynolds hit an opposite-field drive over the right-field wall to put Baltimore back on top.

Reynolds' homer, on Melancon's first pitch, capped a five-run sixth.

The loss dropped the Red Sox to 57-60. Boston lost its 60th game last year on Sept. 10, following 85 wins.

NOTES: A moment of silence was observed before the game for former Boston star Johnny Pesky, who died Monday. ... The Orioles placed LHP Troy Patton (ankle) on the 15-day DL and recalled RHP Steve Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk. ... The Red Sox activated RHP Andrew Bailey (thumb) from the 60-day DL. He got the last out in the eighth. ... Boston traded C Kelly Shoppach to the Mets following a waiver claim. Ryan Lavarnway started behind the plate for Boston and went 1 for 4. ... Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak against Baltimore to 37 straight games, the longest by a Red Sox player against one team. ... Beckett has a strikeout in each of his 299 major league games, the second-longest streak to begin a career since 1900 behind Dwight Gooden (349). ... Rookie Miguel Gonzalez starts for the Orioles on Wednesday night against Boston's Aaron Cook, who makes his first career appearance at Camden Yards.

Lone survivor recalls one of worst US plane crashes

Twenty-five years ago this week, Cecelia Cichan was the only survivor in a plane crash in Michigan that killed the other 154 people on board.

    2. Joe Jonas: Taylor Swift's Breakup Tune Isn't About Me
    3. Jennie Garth (Casually) Dating Photographer Noah Abrams
    4. Minka Kelly as Jackie O: How Does She Stack Up?
    5. Kate Hudson Shows Lots of Leg as Dance Instructor on Glee

Only 4 years old when Northwest Airlines Flight 255 exploded in a ball of fire in 1987, Cichan said in her first interview since the horrific ordeal that she still thinks about it every day. Now 29 and married, Cichan tells her story in the yet-to-be-released documentary ?Sole Survivor,?? excerpts of which aired on TODAY Tuesday. The documentary also features other people who survived commercial plane crashes despite long odds.

In the film, Cichan displays a tattoo of a commercial jet on the underside of her left wrist.

?I think about the accident every day,?? she told the filmmakers. ?It?s kind of hard not to think about it. When I look in the mirror, I have visual scars.??

Story: Sole survivor of plane crash making ?miracle? recovery

A twitching arm
Cichan suffered a fractured skull, a broken leg and collarbone and third-degree burns covering much of her body in the crash. She somehow survived after the McDonnell Douglas MD 80 bound for Phoenix exploded into a ball of fire shortly after takeoff at 8:46 p.m. from the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Romulus, Mich., on Aug. 16, 1987. Her mother, Paula, her father, Michael, and her 6-year-old brother, David, were among the fatalities, as the family was returning from a vacation.

She was found among the wreck when a paramedic spotted her twitching arm and heard her moaning as she suffered from serious burns on 30 percent of her body. For the first 24 hours, she remained unidentified before her grandfather confirmed it was her by her chipped front tooth and the purple nail polish her grandmother had painted on her fingernails before the trip.

Video: Only survivor thinks about plane crash ?every day? (on this page)

The National Transportation Safety Board later determined the crash was most likely caused when the slats and flaps on the plane were not extended because of the crew?s failure to use a pre-flight checklist; there was also a lack of electrical power at the time of takeoff that failed to trigger the warning system.? In the aftermath of the crash, the second-deadliest in U.S. history at the time, Cichan was shielded from public view and raised by an aunt and uncle in Birmingham, Ala., after moving from her home of Tempe, Ariz.

Story: Lone plane crash survivor?s father: It?s ?miraculous?

The subject of media scrutiny and public curiosity since her amazing survival, Cichan received numerous gifts from strangers in the aftermath and was featured on magazine covers and even a billboard in Phoenix wishing her well, according to The Arizona Republic. She granted her first interview to the documentary because of the theme of the film.

?This ?Sole Survivor? project is more about a group, and that?s why I?m willing to get involved and be part of something bigger,?? she told the filmmakers.

Moving moment
The director of the documentary, Ky Dickens, told NBC News that all the survivors were somewhat reluctant to speak out of respect to the loss that other families endured, but were aware of why the public is so fascinated with their lives. Cichan has kept in touch with families of the victims over the years, as well as with Lt. John Thiede, the firefighter who rescued her from the smoldering wreck. He met her for the first time as an adult on her wedding day, when she became Cecelia Crocker.

Mom, daughters reunite with rescuers who saved them from dangling car

?To see her come down the aisle, my heart, I lost it really,?? Thiede says in the documentary. ?Just to see her in person was something.??

?I can say that Cecelia is happy, she?s grounded, (and) she?s doing wonderful,?? Dickens told NBC News. ?She?s in a committed relationship.?

After speaking out for the first time, Cichan hopes to resume her private life, according to the documentary filmmakers. On Thursday, there will be a memorial in Romulus, Mich., on the anniversary of the crash, which remains one of the worst disasters in U.S. aviation history.

There is currently a memorial edifice in Romulus listing the names of all of those who perished on that day.

Retirement Planning: Will Your 401(k) Be Enough?

There is a perception among some people that retirement?planning and investments are only for those who are very wealthy and this couldn?t be further from the truth. While you might not want to put a lot of money into investing if you can barely make ends meet, you do not have to be among the mega-rich to invest money. If your retirement planning consists of relying solely on a 401(k) from your employer, you may want to think about other streams of retirement income and a Fee-Only financial advisor can help.

In ?Fee Disclosure Won?t Fix Your 401(k),? Mark R. Folgmann, AIF? writes that the Labor Department?s decision to give the public more information about the fees connected to 401(k) plans won?t necessarily change the nature o the plans or improve how they are managed:

?Simply put, a 401(k) provider maximizes its revenue by managing as many employer- sponsored plans as possible, not by ensuring that any given plan is run well. This is problematic because the 401(k) has become the primary retirement vehicle for most of the U.S. population.?

Contrast this with the individualized financial planning expertise you can get from a Fee-Only financial planner, and you will see why you may not want to count on an employer-sponsored plan to meet all of your retirement needs. Bringing clarity to your finances requires an advisor who pays attention to all aspects of your financial life, has excellent communication skills, and has the commitment to be available when you need advice and support.

However, Folgmann does not say that all is lost with 401(k) plans since he adds, ?Most plans have the basic structure to be successful.? ?And being more knowledgeable can help you ask the right questions about retirement plans at work. If you want to take charge of your financial future, you can consult with an expert Fee-Only financial planner to make sure you are on the right track.

Putin says Russia to get hundreds of military planes

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's military will get 1,600 new warplanes and helicopters by 2020, President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday, as part of efforts to strengthen the country's armed forces.

Putin has worked hard to restore pride in the Cold War-era superpower's military since his first election in 2000.

The planned addition of 600 military planes and 1,000 helicopters is part of a 23 trillion rouble ($720 billion)program to re-equip a military still weakened by spending cuts prompted by the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

"We are talking primarily about providing our forces with state-of-the-art modern technology," Putin said at an air show on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the country's air force.

Putin, who began a new six-year presidential term in May, said that in addition to the new planes and helicopters, existing military aircraft would be "modernised".

In his address at the air show in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow, Putin thanked air force officers, veterans and industry workers he said "helped our aviation endure the very difficult times of the 1990s and early 2000s".

A former Soviet KGB officer who has often used warnings of external threats to rally, Putin said during his presidential campaign that Russia needed a stronger military to protect it from foreign attempts to stoke conflicts around its borders.

First antibiotic stewardship probed in the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society

First antibiotic stewardship probed in the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society

Friday, August 10, 2012

The Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (JPIDS) today released the largest and most rigorous evaluation to date of the impact on reducing the days of antibiotic therapy in a children's hospital using a prospective-audit-with-feedback antibiotic stewardship program (ASP). The study utilized a control group of the 25-member children's hospitals of the Child Health Corporation of America. A companion article describes how the ASP was created within this 317-bed tertiary care children's hospital and clinicians' attitudes toward it?the first published account of such a pediatric program.

Up to 35% of inpatient antibiotic prescriptions are either unnecessary or inappropriate. The Infectious Diseases Society of America's (IDSA) 2007 guideline on the implementation of hospital ASPs described two core stewardship strategies to curb the rise of drug-resistant microbes: prospective-audit-with-feedback, and preauthorization. IDSA said that research would be needed to determine whether these strategies would be effective in pediatrics.

In this more-than-33-month study of 8,765 patients, Newland et al, observed a significant decrease in antibiotic usage?ranging from a 37% decrease in the early months, to 13% at the end of the observation. In particular, the study showed up to a 19% monthly reduction in broad-spectrum antibiotics, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended avoiding in order to prevent resistance in hospitalized children.

In the companion article, Stach et al, describe the five-part process they used to create their ASP, including: forming a multi-disciplinary team; determining the type of program (prospective-audit-with-feedback) and which antimicrobials to monitor; deciding which mechanism to use in identifying patients (a report was created in the hospital's EMR system); developing and implementing an evaluation process; and, communicating the goals and logistics of the ASP to the hospital's affected clinicians.

The authors surveyed 365 clinicians; the 56% who responded had a positive view of the ASP. The overwhelming majority agreed that the ASP had improved the use (83%) of antibiotics, decreased their inappropriate use (84%), and improved the quality of patient care (82%). An ASP goal was to provide education to those affected by the program; 90% said it did and 66% agreed it led to practice changes. Of negative feelings, only 6% felt the ASP interfered with clinical decision-making and 5% thought the ASP's recommendations were threatening.

Longtime boxing, football referee Elmo Adolph dies | NOLA.com

Elmo Adolph, who spent more than 40 years as a high school football referee and a globe-trotting boxing referee and served a brief stint as the recreation director in St. Charles Parish, died Thursday at his home in Destrehan of an apparent heart attack, his family said. He was 78.

Born in New Orleans, Adolph graduated from Warren Easton High School and earned a degree in sociology from Southeastern Louisiana University.

A too-handsome-to-be great boxer in his youth, Adolph eventually was asked to help train some young local fighters. Then he was approached to become a referee."Jimmy Perrin, who was the chief of officials at the time, said, 'We need you to referee,'" Adolph said in a 2008 interview in which he announced his retirement. "I said, 'I don't know anything about refereeing.' Then Jimmy said, 'You know how to box. You know the rules. Get in the ring.' I did and that night I refereed 17 bouts.'"

From that auspicious beginning, Adolph went on to a career as a world-renowned boxing official, which took him to 76 cities and more than a dozen countries. When he retired , Adolph estimated he had officiated more than 23,000 amateur boxing bouts and at least 1,000 professional matches, including 32 world championship fights and bouts that included Roberto Duran and Larry Holmes. He was in the ring for the 1999 fight between Roy Jones and Reggie Johnson.

He was the only man to officiate a professional world championship fight and an Olympic gold medal fight (Seoul), and one of only 16 referees from the United States ever invited to officiate the Olympic games.

"His boxing career was far from his only involvement in the sports world," said Doug Ireland, the Chairman of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame "Elmo worked world championship and Olympic fights, but he enjoyed telling stories about high school football officiating just as much, for example. No question that his greatest impact came in boxing, where many experts regarded him among the best ever to officiate."

Adolph served the New Orleans area as a high school football referee for more than 30 years. Even after his 2008 retirement, he worked the clock at many River Parishes games on Friday nights.

Adolph was inducted in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, receiving the Dave Dixon Leadership Award, and returned this summer for his first and only Walk of Legends. He also is a member of the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame, the USA Southern Boxing Hall of Fame, the Warren Easton High School Hall of Fame, the USBA Referees Hall of Fame and the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame.

He was the director of recreation in St. Charles Parish from 1990 to 1991, and he was able to pull together a department that was struggling to keep up with an influx of new residents, ?former parish president Albert Laque said.

"He saw what was going on there and gave me a presentation about how he could do better, so I hired him," Laque said Thursday.

Adolph left the job after Laque lost his re-election bid in 1991.

"Elmo had tremendous passion for everything he did and every one he met," Ireland said. "He was among the most enthusiastic members of the Hall of Fame, not only with his pride in being enshrined, but in his joy of making new friends at each year's induction."

"Adolph is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean; his children Vance, Vicki, Vince and Valette, and several grand-children.

A funeral service will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., Monday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:30 p.m until 8 p.m., and Monday from noon until service time.?

Unexpected variation in immune genes poses difficulties for transplantation

ScienceDaily (Aug. 3, 2012) ? Human HLA genes -- the genes that allow our immune system to tell the difference between our own cells and foreign invaders -- are evolving much more rapidly than previously thought, according to an article online on August 3rd in Trends in Genetics. The resulting degree of variation improves our ability to fight off disease, but could also present challenges to current worldwide efforts aimed at identifying potential donors for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation.

"This new work makes clear the daunting and near hopeless challenge of keeping track of the continuous output from the HLA mutational spigot," says first author William Klitz, from the University of California, Berkeley.

HLA proteins sit at the surface of human cells. Every individual has a specific HLA on the surface of their cells and these proteins effectively act as an identification card. Any other cells that have the same HLA on the outside are recognized as 'self'; foreign particles like bacteria or viruses are identified as invaders and the immune system kicks in to remove them. The same system that helps us fight off germs makes organ or stem cell transplantation difficult. Our bodies treat transplanted tissue as foreign and reject it. Unless, however, the patient and the donor share the same HLA genes. As a result, worldwide efforts are underway to identify all possible HLA variants, in the hopes of more effectively matching patients with potential donors.

The difficulty is that within the human population, HLA genes are mutating rapidly and Klitz estimates that more than a million variants exist in the current population. Trying to identify all the variants will be nearly impossible and ultimately pointless, according to Klitz, because of how quickly these genes are evolving. This rapid evolution is a boon in some ways because it means that, at the population level, our immune systems are getting better at fighting off pathogens. For transplant recipients, however, the most likely implication is that the best chance for a match will be found in first-degree relatives rather than in a worldwide search for donors.

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH INCOME?:

While the rest of Europe and the United States have gone on massive spending sprees fueled by government borrowing and tax hikes, Sweden took a different approach. In the Spring 2012 Economic and Budget Policy Guidelines, the Swedish Government and its Finance Minister, Anders Borg, have laid out a plan that is focused on lowering taxes. Their rationale? "When indviduals and families get to keep more their income, their independence and their opportunities to shape their own lives also increase."

Borg also wants to lower the corporate tax rate as a way of meeting the government's goal of "full employment". The government has already cut property taxes and other luxury taxes on the rich to lure investors and entrepreneurs back to Sweden. The government has also slashed spending across the board, including on the welfare programs that used to be Sweden's claim to fame. They've also installed caps on annual government expenditures: real and enforceable limits that the Swedes believe are pivotal to economic stability. They explain in their Policy Guidelines that "the expenditure ceiling is the Government's most important tool for meeting the surplus." Imagine that, a government that stays within its limits. So why didn't Sweden hop on the stimulus bandwagon like the U.S. and much of Europe?

Anders Borg explains, "Look at Spain, Portugal or the UK, whose governments were arguing for large temporary stimulus... Well, we can see that very little of the stimulus went to the economy. But they are stuck with the debt." We have now seen that attempts at austerity within the Eurozone have met a similar fate: none of it was serious. As spending increases have been squandered, spending cuts have been a charade, failing to target the big government programs at the core of the debt crisis. So Anders Borg and the Swedish Government have undertaken an economic and budget plan that slashes taxes and (actually) caps government spending. If you told Paul Krugman and the rest of the Keynesians back at the onset of the financial crisis that Sweden's finance minister was planning such action, they would have surely laughed in your face and cynically predicted doom and gloom for the Scandinavian nation. However, in reality, a place Keynesians seem to be unfamiliar with, it's become clear that what Sweden is doing is working. And it's working better than even Minister Borg expected.

Drew Peterson denied mistrial again after prosecution's missteps

Drew Peterson's attorneys marched into court this morning demanding a mistrial in the murder case against Peterson, alleging that missteps by the prosecution on Tuesday and Wednesday had irreparably tainted the jury.

"It's going to be an unfair trial if you let this go on," a defense attorney told Judge Edward Burmila today. Peterson is charged with killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, and making it look like an accident in 2004.

The defense's argument centered on testimony introduced Wednesday by a former neighbor of Peterson's, who said without prompting that a bullet had once been found in Savio's driveway. The prosecution said that they were simply trying to prove that Peterson had intimidated Savio prior to her death, but the defense and Burmila loudly objected to the mention of the bullet, saying that its admissibility had not been discussed in pre-trial motions and was inappropriate.

The defense asked for a mistrial immediately following the testimony about the bullet, but Burmila returned a decision in the afternoon denying the mistrial. Instead, he said he would strike the neighbor's testimony from the court record and allow the defense to keep the cross-examination testimony on the record if they chose. He gave the attorneys Wednesday afternoon to think about it.

Today, attorneys again told Burmila that the prosecution's pattern of mentioning evidence that had not been officially admitted into the trial was irreparably damaging to their client.

Merely throwing out the neighbor's testimony would not "untaint the harm," the attorneys told Burmila.

Burmila, however, denied today's mistrial request. It was the third request for a mistrial in the three-day-old trial.

Today, the trial is expected to get back under way with the prosecution's next witness. They have so far only called Mary and Thomas Pontarelli, neighbors who lived down the street from Savio and were the first to discover her dead in her bathtub.

Savio's death was ruled an accident in 2004, but after Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing in 2007, police exhumed Savio's body and reexamined it. A new forensic pathologist reported that Savio's death was actually a homicide, and Peterson was charged with murder.

Stacy Peterson, whom Drew had already begun dating while still married to Savio, vanished without a trace and has never been heard from or found.

The case against Drew Peterson is expected to hinge on whether Burmila allows certain evidence, including statements Stacy Peterson made about Savio's death, into court record. Stacy Peterson reportedly told her minister that around the time of Savio's death, Drew came home to their house with women's clothing that did not belong to Stacy.

Savio also made statements to her relatives about Peterson's alleged domestic abuse and threats which the prosecution will try to enter into evidence through hearsay testimony.

The legal wrangling over admissibility seen in the first few days of the trial is expected to continue as the prosecution presents its case. Defense attorney Joel Brodsky has told ABC News that he expects Burmila to dismiss the case after the prosecution rests due to a lack of real evidence tying Peterson to Savio's death.

Synchronized Chaos ? Blog Archive ? Survival of the Happiest: Joy ...

Survival of the Happiest

?by Joy Ding

Who doesn?t want to be happy all the time? But as Dr. Loretta Breuning explains in Meet Your Happy Chemicals, constant happiness is simply not the point. The happiness reward system that we humans have inherited from our primate ancestors (and which we share with all mammals) is just that: a reward system meant to encourage us to take actions that promote survival. If it were always on, it would lose its effectiveness to flag survival-positive actions.

What, then, can we do about being happy more often, and less frequently unhappy? While happiness self-help books have often come up with lists of ?good actions? such as the creation and maintenance of close and trustworthy relationships and the availability of meaningful work, Dr. Breuning puts it into a new context: that of brain chemistry.

The four happiness chemicals ? dopamine, endorphin, oxytocin, and serotonin ? are released respectively when we approach an award, are in pain, bond with and/or trust another, and accrue respect. While in prehistoric times, the chemicals may have released for more obvious survival needs such as hunting food (dopamine) or masking immediate pain from injury so we could escape a dangerous situation (endorphin), the release of the happiness chemicals in a modern life may seem more cryptic.

Here is where Dr. Breuning?s narrative really shines. The particular wisdom of the book is its ability to distinguish each of the four happiness chemicals, provide examples for when they are released, and how we can build new happiness circuits ? basically new ways that we can be happier. While most triggers for happiness are built at a young age, adults are able to build more happiness circuits, it will just take a little effort. Specifically, 45 days. That?s the amount of time it takes to build a new and persistent neural pathway in the brain, one that will release happy chemicals when triggered.

Dr. Breuning also provides interesting material on the usefulness of unhappiness as nature?s alarm system (Chapter 2: Good Reasons to be Unhappy) and exercises to create more circuits for each of the happiness chemicals (Chapter 5: Building New Happy Circuits.) While a lot of these tips are not necessarily novel?for instance, one of the exercises for building new dopamine circuits is to celebrate small steps and adjust expectations so they are more realistic?the neurochemical context which Dr. Breuning uses to frame the exercises is very refreshing. In contrast to most self-help books, in which exercises for improvement are justified on the basis of anecdotal information, and a certain well-of-course reasoning, Dr. Breuning?s book grounds the exercises in neurochemical fact, giving exercises like ?laugh? and ?break an unpleasant task into smaller parts? new life.

In brief, the biggest gift that Meet Your Happy Chemicals gives us is a greater understanding of our own brains, the kind of understanding that will hopefully lead to happier lives: better acceptance of unhappiness, and ways to pave our own ways to more happiness.

As Dr. Breuning says, and I quote: ?This brain we?ve inherited is frustrating. In its quest for survival it often turns unhappy chemicals on and happy chemicals off. When my neurochemistry frustrates me, I remind myself that it has succeeded at promoting survival for millions of years.?

US Cellular launches Motorola Electrify 2 today for $180, Defy XT on August 3rd

US Cellular launches Motorola Electrify 2 today for $180, Defy XT on August 3rd

With the launch of the Atrix HD a couple weeks ago, Motorola's looking to continue building momentum by launching two new devices on US Cellular this week. First up is the Electrify 2, the obvious followup to the regional carrier's version of the Photon 4G. Available online beginning today and in stores tomorrow, the new Electrify will feature Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.3-inch ColorBoost panel, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Kevlar backing, an 8MP rear camera capable of taking 1080p video capture, decently thin profile (8.4mm) and a splash guard similar to what we saw on the Atrix HD and Droid RAZR. While USCC's site tells us that pricing may vary by location, it looks like the Electrify 2 is going for $180 after a $100 mail-in rebate and the obligatory two-year commitment.

The second device in Moto's arsenal is the Defy XT, due to launch on August 3rd. We've seen this model land in other parts of the world, but this is the first time it's hit a major mobile operator in the US (unless you count Republic Wireless as a contender). The Defy XT is a bit more on the rugged side, featuring an IP67 durability rating, a 3.7-inch FWVGA (854 x 480) display with Gorilla Glass, Android 2.3, a 1,700mAh battery, 5MP camera with 720p video record, 1GHz CPU and 512MB RAM. We're still waiting to hear back from US Cellular on the pricing, but we anticipate it to be in the mid-range. In the meantime, the press release is below for your general perusal.

Internet Marketing Expert - List Building For Non Techie Bloggers ...

When you are going to have something for your whole life, why scrimp on it? Avoid going to specific tattoo parlors just because they?re cheap. Cheaper artists tend to work fast to make up for their losses, and this leads to lower quality work. Even though you have to go to a high-end tattoo parlor and fork over a good chuck of money, remind yourself: This is forever!

More and more people started using smarth phones (iPhone, Nexus One, HTC ?) to navigate on the internet. Total number of iPhone devices currently in use is just over 55 million units and during the year of 2009 alone a total of 172 million Internet-ready smartphones were sold worldwide. It is estimated that by 2013 there will be 2.2 billion Internet users will work with mobile phones, more than one third of the population.

Provide Links To Products: Your blog should be producing great content that is directly related to the products and/or services your business provides. By linking key words or phrases within your blog post, to your actual website, you are driving traffic internally. For example, if you have a business that sells dog toys and your newest blog post talks about great gift ideas for pets, it makes sense to link gift ideas to the page on your website where those dog toys are for sale.

Email contact, or email marketing, allows you to build a relationship with your subscriber and can be very effective when executed in the correct way. The subscriber always has the option to remove themselves from your list, so it is vital that you do not abuse the relationship you are building with your potential customers by sending them spam emails.

If you want to build an MLM business by using the internet, you would want to set up your own random blurbs. Even if you are just starting out with your MLM this should be one of your main goals. Having a blog in place is a very important step in building your web brand.

Whenever you post links to posts on your blogs on your online marketing or social media channels, readers are likely to be attracted a lot more to these, than they would be towards links of external websites. That?s because blogs are usually written from a writer?s personal point of view, with strong opinions on the topic, which usually appeal to a sizeable group of readers.

Internet is not just a source of information. It is a platform that provides a wide variety of opportunities for everyone to create wealth. You can choose to make money through online auctions, product marketing, affiliate marketing, building blogs, web designing, etc. It is you to determine which area you want to get involved. The most important thing you need to bear in mind is whatever field you join, it must be legitimate. Be more alert and don?t get trapped by scams.

As brilliant as the Galilean telescope was, there is always room for improvement, hence in 1611, another astronomer by the name of Johannes Kepler created another variation of the refracting telescope based on the designs of the Galilean telescope. The Keplerian Telescope, as it came to be known, used convex lenses as opposed to Galileo?s version which used convex lenses.

You could also put up some Adsense if you would rather just earn money when people click on things. That way no one ever has to buy anything. But either way it works and if you put in some effort on a daily basis you will be able to earn a nice income with your blog.

Do you know the latest trend in the internet today? One of the most popular activities that many people do in the internet these days is blogging. It is a term describing the act of writing a blog. It can also be referred as an online journal. Before you allow a blog to be read by many people, look for online websites of blog submissions that will approve your work for publication first. Otherwise, use your own website (if you have any) to publish your blog.

Having a blog in place is a very important step in building your web brand.
