NEW YORK (AP) ? The person who collected Ryan Braun's urine sample that tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone said he followed the collection program's protocol.

Dino Laurenzi Jr. issued a statement Tuesday confirming he handled the sample submitted following a playoff game on Oct. 1. He says he has been a collector for Comprehensive Drug Testing since 2005 and has taken more than 600 samples for Major League Baseball's drug-testing program.

"At no point did I tamper in any way with the samples," Laurenzi said.

Laurenzi's name emerged last week after the NL MVP's 50-game suspension was overturned, making Braun the first big leaguer to successfully challenge a drug-related penalty in a grievance.

Laurenzi said he stored Braun's sample in his basement in accordance with CDT's protocol because there was "no FedEx office located within 50 miles of Miller Park that would ship packages that day or Sunday."

Braun, however, has said at least five FedEx locations within 5 miles were open until 9 p.m. and there also was a 24-hour location.

Laurenzi said the operating procedure is to "safeguard" the samples at home until FedEx can ship the sample to the lab.

"There have been other occasions when I have had to store samples in my home for at least one day, all without incident," he said.

Laurenzi added that he had "performed my job duties with integrity and professionalism, and have done so with respect to this matter and all other collections in which I have participated."

He said he issued the statement "to set the record straight."

Braun was not available for comment Tuesday at the Brewers' spring training camp in Phoenix. Asked for reaction to Laurenzi's statement, Milwaukee outfielder Corey Hart declined comment.

Last week, Braun said he was the "victim" of a "fatally flawed" system.

"There are a lot of things that we heard about the collection process, the collector and some other people involved in the process that have been concerning to us," he said. "But as I've dealt with the situation, I know what it's like to be wrongly accused of something, so for me to wrongly accuse somebody wouldn't help."

MLB had no comment, and referred instead to its statement from last week:

"The extremely experienced collector in Mr. Braun's case acted in a professional and appropriate manner. He handled Mr. Braun's sample consistent with instructions issued by our jointly retained collection agency," it said.

However, his decision to conclude with one of the film's most famous lines — "I'm king of the world"— left a sour taste in the mouths of viewers.

Angelina Jolie, Best Supporting Actress, "Girl, Interrupted" (2000)
Everything about Angelina Jolie's Oscar evening the night of her win was, well, kind of weird. Not only was the drop-dead-gorgeous actress dressed like Morticia Adams, she brought her brother, James Haven Voight, as her date and the pair acted a little too close for comfort on the red carpet. They kissed and clung to each other and it was totally gross ... then she won the Best Supporting Actress prize and thanked her bro, saying, "I'm just so in love with my brother right now." The whole thing was awkward and the incident haunted the actress for years, until her tabloid drama with current partner Brad Pitt and her humanitarian work on behalf of refugees finally overshadowed the strange behavior.

Michael Moore, Best Documentary Feature, "Bowling For Columbine" (2003)
Like Brando, Moore used the Oscars as a political forum and it was just as inappropriate when he did it. Moore scored the documentary prize for "Columbine," a powerful film about gun violence in America, but rather than thank those who helped him make the important doc, he used the stage to express his disdain for President George W. Bush and his disagreement with the decision to invade Iraq. "We are against this war, Mr. Bush," Moore chastised. "Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you." No, shame on Michael Moore for using the Oscars as a soap box when they are supposed to be a celebration of film.

One species is the marine iguana, the only species of lizard that feeds at sea. These iguanas were sunning themselves on a rock when I walked past and took the time to pose for me.?

LONDON -- The bells of St Clement Danes Church on The Strand chimed on the hour at 10 a.m.? Gray clouds hung low over traffic-filled streets and the cold chilled to the bone.

So a pretty typical February day in central London.

It became untypical at around 11, after two young men walked out of nearby Aldwych underground, or subway, station.? A few minutes later, a public announcement instructed everybody to leave the building. The trickle of commuters leaving the station became a torrent.? Some of them were irate, demanding an explanation from subway workers and police.? Others held their heads or limbs, seemingly wounded and in shock.

Sirens screamed and a helicopter hovered above.? Police vans, ambulances, fire trucks and a large green tent for the wounded clogged the narrow lane outside the station.? Dozens of first responders -- fire fighters in helmets and black-and-yellow outfits, ambulance workers, police officers and delighted-looking bomb-sniffing dogs -- milled around on the street.

The bad news: Word was that an explosive device had partially detonated deep in the Tube.

The good news: It was all part of a two-day drill on Wednesday called Operation Forward Defensive involving thousands of emergency personnel and volunteers.

Dozens of journalists and officials were observing an exercise of how emergency services, London City Hall, transport officials, Olympic organizers, the government and counter-terrorism units would react to a terrorist attack during this summer's games. According to the scenario, there had been an "incident" in Oxford Street Station, a major transport artery, on August 8, 2012, judged to be one of the busiest days during the Olympics.

Corporate and municipal bond investing has one major problem: When interest rates go up, bonds go down.

Actually, bond investing has two major problems. The second is that people are rate pigs. They always go for the highest payout on bonds and bond funds and ignore the problems associated with long maturities.

The result is that when bonds do drop in value, which they will do at some point, the drop is accelerated by ?rate pigitis? ? really accelerated. Long maturities drop in value a lot more than short ones.

So, a bond investor has to make a choice:

• Go with really long maturities, get higher yields and suffer through the sell-off when rates go back up?

Or:

• Go for shorter maturities and put up with lower returns, but a much smaller drop in value when the sell-off finally happens?

Of course, there are those who think, ?I?ll just wait it out and collect my interest, ignore the big drop in long maturity bonds and collect my principal at maturity.?

Here?s the real truth about the average small-bond investor.

I can understand why? It?s been 10 years since we made a dime on stocks.

All of this money is going into bonds at exactly the wrong time, in all the wrong ways and at prices so high, they have to come down.

It will be a blood bath of biblical proportions when almost everyone cuts and runs as prices drop.

The Staggered Approach to Bond Investing

But this is completely avoidable. There?s a way to own bonds now and get around this impending bloodbath, and still beat the stock market.

In fact, if you use a staggered approach to bonds, rather than the usual ladder, you can:

• Get very high rates of returns.
• Minimize the drop in value when interest rates rise.
• Take advantage of higher rates and the bargains they present in a down bond market.
• And still sleep at night, too?

I know, too good to be true, right?

But this isn?t a guarantee of any kind, you will have some losses ? very few, but some. Based on today?s market averages about one to three out of a 100 trades will be losers.

Sounds good, doesn?t it?

And, you will have to follow all the rules! Yes, rules of the road that cannot be ignored. Any Navy folks out there know what that implies. Standing Orders and all!

Right off the bat, that eliminates about 25% of all investors, big and small. That bottom 25% is doomed by the fact that they don?t know what to believe and are so inexperienced they can?t separate the good information from the garbage.

Another 25% will only play the ?swing for the fence? game in the stock market. They will figure it out eventually, but not until they have lost so much they go back to CDs and money markets. At least they aren?t losing anymore.

Another 25% know they have the secret to success and will only buy stocks, because they know the secret, right?

So that leaves you and me and few other survivors who are able to see a real opportunity.

Here it is! It?s called a ?staggered bond portfolio.? Your broker will tell you it can?t work, but I have been proving him wrong for a long time.

Forget Everything You Know

First, forget everything you know about corporate bonds, and munis for that matter, especially how to structure a portfolio of them.

Think in terms of very small bond positions, as few as one bond per position, five or more is preferable, but you can do one. I know brokers will tell you it is impossible to buy less than 10 or 20 bonds. Baloney! Get another broker who knows something about bonds!

The Rules of the Road

• Buy many bonds of almost all credit qualities, as low as CCC. Right now, I prefer to stay in the BBB to CCC range, but the skittish can go for the higher ratings if you need them to sleep at night. But the BBB to B ratings don?t have that much more risk and the slightly lower-rated bonds are where all the money is.

• Buy bonds in many industries. Don?t load up on a few tech names or familiar names. Stay diversified just as in a stock portfolio.

• In the current market, shoot for an average maturity of five years or less. That means you can buy a few really good ones at seven years and a few that don?t look as good in the one- to two-year maturity. Then fill in the blanks.

As the market shifts to higher interest rates, this strategy will shift to longer maturities and the higher rates that come with them. But for now, you must stay very short on time. This market requires it.

• Never load up on a single bond because you like the return. This is the biggest trap and the biggest money burner in the business. Just ask the folks who bought Lehman Bros. bonds, AAA at the time, because they had a great interest rate and a really good rating.

For the average person, that?s someone who isn?t managing millions, there?s never a good enough reason to buy more than 10 bonds in any one position.

Plan on buying lots of different bonds so when the bad news does hit (and it will eventually), it only affects about one to four bonds out of a 100, and you don?t have your whole life hung out to dry in one position. I?ll bet you can guess which bonds will get you into trouble. Here?s a hint, it won?t be the small positions in your portfolio.

• Look for bonds whose underlying companies just had some bad news; missed earnings, bad product, lawsuit, etc. It will kill the stock and the bond will slip, too, but here?s where the difference between stocks and corporate bonds really shines.

The only question you need to ask yourself about that bond is, ?Will the company be in business when this bond matures?? The answer in almost 99% of cases is, ?Yes.?

That?s it! Let the stockholders die on the vine as this thing gets pummeled. You buy the bond while it?s down, collect the interest and capital gains, wait for the bond to go back up in value ? which they do in most cases ? then sell it or wait for maturity and collect your principal and interest.

Two More Advantages

There are two more advantages to this short staggered portfolio. Take a look at the example below of what a portion of a complete staggered portfolio looks like.

Notice you have several bonds coming due each year. This is key to this strategy. This allows you to buy back into the market at higher rates several times a year. This gives you all kinds of flexibility that laddering doesn?t.

In a traditional laddered portfolio, you have to wait several years for a bond to mature to be able to buy another. That can hurt in a fast changing bond market, which is what I?m expecting in the next few years.

Maybe the most beneficial aspect of the staggered strategy is you can see the horizon. You can see that there?s money coming due, and you know you will get your principal back, and that gives you a psychological advantage over all other types of investments.

Being able to see that horizon ? I call it the light at the end of the tunnel ? makes it that much easier to sit tight and wait out the worst that any market has to offer.

You have to be there at the end of the race to have any chance of being a winner.

That?s how you avoid the bloodbath that?s coming in the bond market, reduce your risk, avoid the volatility of the stock and make real money in bonds.

?The effort to connect society by the ministry has begun to bear fruit; both urban and rural society has benefited from the communication and broadband facilities,? he said at the launch of NJOI, Astro?s subscription-free satellite TV service nationwide held at the multi-purpose hall in Sibu Jaya yesterday afternoon.

Salang who is also Julau MP, said as of December last year, the household broadband penetration rate nationwide stood at 62.3 per cent. For Sarawak alone it was 47.5 per cent while cellular coverage for populated area stood at 84 per cent.

Although the national cellular coverage rate was wide, the effort to widen connectivity was still being implemented, he said.

He said in the state, among the efforts to widen cellular coverage was the construction of 114 telecommunication towers to be completed by the middle of this year.

Apart from that, under the worldwide service provision being managed by Malaysia Communication and Multi-media Commission (SKMM), the people are provided with broadband facilities to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural areas including in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said among those was the distribution of one million laptop computers associated with broadband packages affordable for students and low-income group.

According to him, Sarawak has been allocated 182,168 laptop computers, of which 74,858 had been distributed to-date.? The other 107,310 would be distributed to qualified students and members of the public within this month.

In addition, SKMM has implemented broadband community centres (PJK) and broadband libraries (PJL) to provide communication, infrastructure services and Internet accessibility in rural areas, he said. Sarawak has 34 PJK and 33 PJL in operation to date.

The wireless village initiative (KTW), he said, was operated based on the concept of the widening wireless broadband service to villages.

?A total of 600 wireless villages projects are to be implemented throughout the state in which 212 wireless villages are operational while 388 will be developed early this year.

On behalf of the ministry, Salang congratulated Astro for introducing NJOL to the public. By buying NJOL decoder set from a retailer, the public could enjoy 37 TV and radio channels free.

He also congratulated Astro for continually discharging their corporate social responsibility through NJOL.

?The government realised the shortcomings faced in narrowing the communication gap especially in an area where free TV and radio services were inaccessible,? he said.

In this respect, the satellite broadcast system is a good alternative for closing the gap.? Through NJOL, recipients in selected areas will get NJOL decoder set and NJOL channels for free.

He said NJOL was not only a commercial project but continuation of the government?s effort to provide access to knowledge, education, information, entertainment and radio contents.

I did a lot of digging to analyze why some moms have it all together and how we can adapt their strategies to help the moms that fall into the ?not-so-organized? category.

Here are three secrets to staying organized for the busy mommy.

1. Declutter first, then move on

If you live in clutter ? think a cluttered home, a cluttered car, a cluttered desk ? then that clutter is all you see, all that you live in on a daily basis. It?s not healthy ? not for your physical, mental, or emotional states. Clutter breeds anxiety, restlessness, and even irritability. All of which aren?t healthy for your family to be feeling.

How can you expect to become organized if all of your daily dealings are amidst clutter?

Get to cleaning and decluttering, mamas. Once you?ve gotten rid of all the things you don?t need and no longer use, you can now start to see and feel the halting power that clutter has on our lives.

Once you literally open up and get rid of the clutter, you?ll feel so much freer to begin getting things in order.
